If you are preparing to file a Texas disability application with the Social Security Administration, at http://www.ssa.gov/disability/disability_starter_kits_adult_checklist.htm there are a few things you will need to have available to you.  As you ready yourself for filing a Texas disability application, you will want to bring your documents with you to the interview or you will want to mail them into the Social Security Administration.  You will need original documents when you file.

You will need to bring all medical records with you or send them to the SSA; they will copy them and return them to you when they have made copies if you have chosen to mail them in to the SSA.  If you have been on Workers’ Compensation, you will need to bring in your determination information, any settlement arrangements you have made, and information about the payments you are receiving from Worker’s Compensation.

You will need dates and documents related to divorces and marriages, the dates of birth of your spouse and children, birth certificates for all dependents and yourself, and your bank account information for requesting direct depositing methods of any payments you do receive.

When you file a Texas disability application you will also want to make sure, you complete Form SSA-827: this is a medical release that allows the SSA to gather medical documentation for you.  You will also require all documentation related to your previous work history.  Once you have submitted the completed application, it is officially reviewed by an examiner from DDS; this examiner will ultimately determine your eligibility for benefits.  If you are found eligible to get benefits like SSDI, you will be provided with a monthly benefit that is receivable only after a five-month waiting period has passed.  The only time this waiting period is waived is if the benefits are for an adult disabled child.  When it comes to SSI payments, you will begin getting them when you are approved; no waiting period applies.
